As we age, our bodies have a harder time adjusting to hot weather. Certain medications can also affect our body’s response to heat.
Help loved ones and neighbors stay safe when it’s hot:
Have a designated contact list of people to check in with and reach out to for support.
Visit or call daily to make sure they are hydrated and their home temperature is comfortable.
Offer to take others someplace cool, like an air-conditioned library, senior center, or mall.
Your #HeatSafeLA Checklist:
Close windows before it is hot outside
Block out sunlight with curtains, shades, or reflective window films
Be aware of any heat advisories
Stay hydrated and carry a water bottle when you leave home
If it’s very hot, stay indoors as much as possible
Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing
