After Wildfire: Migration and Neighborhood Change Post Disaster
Join the UCLA Luskin Center for an engaging talk by Kathryn McConnell on how communities transform in the aftermath of wildfire events. Professor McConnell will share insights from her work on how communities adapt and transform in the aftermath of wildfire events, offering valuable perspectives on resilience, displacement, and urban change. Her findings have relevance and implications to inform more equitable rebuilding in Los Angeles.

RootDown staff Andres Chopin Food Production Manager will be in the garden to greet and assign you volunteer work that day. The garden has its own entrance located on the corner of 46th and McKinley.

HCD Connect: A New Online Portal for Uploading Annual Progress Reports, Housing Elements, and Site Inventories
Join SCAG for a Toolbox Tuesday session introducing jurisdictions to HCD Connect, a new and enhanced data management system and online portal designed to streamline interactions with the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). The system creates a new option for local governments and consultants to submit Housing Elements and Sites Inventories via web portal. Members of HCD’s Annual Progress Reports and Housing Element teams will go over the basics of account setup, login, and document submission.

Since 1991, the CivicWell Policymakers Conference has gathered local elected officials from across California in an inspiring and collaborative environment.

Assessment of Flood Adaptation Options in Los Angeles County: Workshop #3
In this workshop, researchers from the University of California, Irvine and the University of Miami will present an update on their project that simulates three county-wide flood risk adaptation strategies: (a) raising levees, (b) widening channels, and (c) capturing additional stormwater with more green infrastructure and parks.

Climate Equity LA Series: Safe and Clean Air at Home

Model Laws for Deep Decarbonization in the United States
Join SCAG for a Toolbox Tuesday session introducing the Legal Pathways to Deep Decarbonization (LPDD) project. Developed by Columbia University's Sabin Center for Climate Change Law and Widener University's Commonwealth School of Law, the LPDD project is an online database of draft model laws and ordinances that inform greenhouse gas reduction policies at every level of government. A national network of pro-bono attorneys created this resource, which is available to partners throughout the SCAG region.

National Practice Forum on Nature-Based Solutions
The Network for Engineering With Nature (N-EWN) in partnership with the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Resilient America Roundtable and the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) Center for Coastal Climate Resilience is convening a national forum focused on the practice of nature-based solutions. The two-day event will be held 9am-2pm February 4-5, 2025, at the NAS Beckman Center in Irvine, California.
The forum will bring together national leaders and practitioners to discuss innovations in the application of nature-based solutions (NBS) for hazard mitigation and climate adaptation. Discussions will focus on overcoming challenges in scaling NBS and finding collaborative, equitable solutions.
