City Plants is pleased to partner with LA Department of Water & Power and North East Trees for a FREE Shade Tree Adoption. The event will be open from 9AM to 2PM. If you are a resident of the City of Los Angeles, you can adopt up to seven trees and plant them in your yard! You must bring proof of residence (photo ID with an LA City address or an LADWP bill) to the adoption event. Trees come in 5-gallon containers and must be planted in the ground on your private property.

Net Zero Accelerator (NZA) Annual Demo Day
US Green Building Council California (USGBC-CA) and the Net Zero Accelerator (NZA) invite you to Demo Day 2025.
The NZA speeds the adoption of impactful solutions in the built environment. To help scale these innovations, the program supports growth-stage companies in de-risking offerings, aligning products and services with market needs, and ultimately implementing new technologies through pilot projects in our shared community.
This is a hybrid event, with keynote, panel discussions, and some demos in-person integrated with virtual demos from around the US and Canada coming to us live on the big screen.
If you're able to join in-person, there’ll be light lunch and refreshments in the event space at the La Kretz Innovation Campus in downtown Los Angeles.

National Practice Forum on Nature-Based Solutions
The Network for Engineering With Nature (N-EWN) in partnership with the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Resilient America Roundtable and the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) Center for Coastal Climate Resilience is convening a national forum focused on the practice of nature-based solutions. The two-day event will be held 9am-2pm February 4-5, 2025, at the NAS Beckman Center in Irvine, California.
The forum will bring together national leaders and practitioners to discuss innovations in the application of nature-based solutions (NBS) for hazard mitigation and climate adaptation. Discussions will focus on overcoming challenges in scaling NBS and finding collaborative, equitable solutions.

This two-day course provides a robust introduction into residential building electrification. SCAG Regional Council
The Regional Council is the governing board of SCAG and consists of 86 elected officials representing 191 cities, six counties, county transportation commissions, transportation corridor agencies, tribal governments and air districts in Southern California.

Facilitation Basics for Coastal Managers Pt. 2 (Virtual)
Productive meetings are essential to effectively plan for and manage the diverse interests and needs in our coastal communities. In this course, participants will learn basic facilitation skills, tools to engage participants, and techniques for dealing with disruptive behaviors. Class time is provided to practice using tools and skills to plan and facilitate meetings that accomplish objectives while minimizing conflict. Participants at every level are welcome, since these new skills will be useful even when attending, but not running, a meeting.

Transportation Electrification Partnership Summit

The role of the CEHD Committee is to study problems, programs and other matters which pertain to the regional issues of community, economic and human development and growth. This committee reviews projects, plans and programs of regional significance for consistency and conformity with applicable regional plans.

The Executive/ Administration Committee is responsible for developing policy recommendations to the Regional Council on administration, human resources, budgets, finance, operations, communications, or any other matter specifically referred to the Committee by the Regional Council.

REACH Inland Empire
Representatives from Inland southern California local and regional governments, tribal governments, community-based organizations, philanthropy, and institutions of higher education are invited to a workshop alongside key State agencies to coordinate on the region’s energy, land use, and climate barriers and solutions, including a focus on funding access.
This first meeting aims to establish an ongoing Regional Energy and Climate Hub (REACH), an extension of the State and Local Energy and Climate Coordination (SLECC) effort led by CCEC and the Strategic Growth Council. REACH Inland Empire will offer a streamlined communication and ideation hub for key state and regional stakeholders to work together more closely to elevate and catalyze place-based energy, land use, and climate progress.

The U.S. Regulatory Landscape for Climate Biotech
Connecting Genetics to Climate is hosting a Zoom dialogue with guests from the FDA, EPA, and USDA to discuss the current state of the U.S. regulatory landscape for biotechnologies with climate and environment applications (i.e. climate biotech). We'll hear from regulators about how they manage the wide range of issues (such as organism type, applications, method of genetic modifications, issues of environmental release, ecosystems and monitoring) that impact whether and how a biotechnology is regulated under existing U.S. product laws.

Introduction to TCTACs Webinar for Tribal Governments and Communities
The National Indian Health Board (NIHB) and the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP) are cohosting this webinar. The webinar will provide an overview of the EPA and the DOE's Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Centers (TCTACs) and will explain the roles of NIHB and ITEP in the TCTAC program. The TCTAC programs intend to support tribal capacity by providing free technical assistance to Tribal communities and organizations. You will also hear from invited Tribal partners about their experience working with the TCTACs as well as get a chance to connect with your regional TCTAC.

ESG Essentials: Scope 3 Emissions
Join USGBC California and Verdani Partners for this virtual workshop on ESG Essentials Series: Scope 3 emissions are the result of activities from assets not owned or controlled by the reporting organization, but that the organization indirectly affects in its value chain. An organization’s value chain consists of both its upstream and downstream activities. Scope 3 emissions include all sources not within an organization’s scope 1 and 2 boundary.

UCLA & Port of Los Angeles Summit
This summit advances an ongoing dialogue between UCLA and the Port of Los Angeles (POLA). As the #1 public university in the US and the largest port in North America, the two are primed for greater collaboration.
This partnership seeks to advance community engagement, protection of the environment, and supply chain optimization at POLA, leveraging UCLA’s academic and research resources and expertise. The long-term goal is to harness academic, research, and technical skills to promote clean technology, investment in human capital, and increase operational efficiencies at POLA, while providing UCLA students, staff, and faculty with unique educational experiences and industry opportunities.
SCAG Equity Working Group
The Equity Working Group engages stakeholders on SCAG’s regional and local planning activities and shares information about efforts across the region to eliminate racial bias and barriers in land-use and transportation planning. Because equity is intersectional, the Equity Working Group will address multiple planning areas, including environmental justice, public health, economic mobility, and more.

2024 Sea Grant Marine Debris Symposium
The 2024 Sea Grant Marine Debris Symposium will take place in person on November 12th-14th at the NOAA Auditorium and Science Center in Silver Spring, MD with options for virtual attendance. This free, annual symposium brings together grantees, researchers, community members, and other partners to share updates on Marine Debris Challenge and Community Action Coalitions Competition projects, discuss marine debris prevention and removal, and create a network of peer support for current and future work.

Wildfire Defense Certificate for Construction Professionals
The USGBC-CA Wildfire Defense Certificate Training Program was developed to educate construction professionals and landscapers on how to best harden homes and landscapes to fires through the use of materials, maintenance practices, and firewise design practices known to reduce properties’ risk of fire damage. The intention of this training is meant to prime the pathway for the private market to drive adoption of firewise best practices and create cultural change within the building industry.
