Throughout 2015 the Hammer and the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability explore the most pressing issues surrounding the current and future state of water in our seriesThe Next Wave.

Plastic marine litter is one the most significant environmental problems facing our oceans and is creating considerable regulatory challenges for lawmakers. This panel will discuss the impact of plastic debris on ocean wildlife, coastal economies, fisheries, and human health and will examine California’s current legislative initiatives to reduce the sources of this pollution – and the controversies that surround them.
