Dan Jacobs

The founding program director of the MS in Sustainability Management, Professor Jacobs, led Kogod to a #1 national ranking in undergraduate sustainability education by Bloomberg Business Week in 2013. Professor Jacobs teaches courses in sustainability and global corporate citizenship. He speaks frequently about those subjects to academic, business, and media audiences. He has appeared recently on BBC World News television and in the Washington Post, Financial Times, and Guardian. Professor Jacobs joined Kogod's full-time faculty following a distinguished career in the federal government. As an award-winning Trial Attorney at the Justice Department, he was lead counsel in high-profile environmental and civil rights cases. As a Senior Negotiator and Office Director in the State Department's Economic, Energy, and Business Bureau, he led major initiatives to promote and protect American business interests abroad. While serving in the State Department's Office of the Legal Adviser, he won an award for his work in international arbitration. Professor Jacobs has taught at George Washington University, Middlebury College, and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, and has been a Visiting Scholar at UCLA. He began his professional career as a law clerk to a U.S. Court of Appeals judge.
