Future of Public Transit and Shared Mobility: A Scenario Planning Study in Response to the COVID-19 Crisis

Register

EVENT OVERVIEW:
In 2020, the novel coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) enveloped the world, leading to a public health crisis that profoundly changed all aspects of society, including transportation. With public transit and shared mobility at a critical juncture, the University of California’s Institute of Transportation Studies (UC ITS) and the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) Executive Committee, with funding support from ClimateWorks, launched a scenario planning exercise from June to September 2020. The study focused on a key question, across three timeframes (up to 12 months, 1 to 3 years, and 4 to 6 years): What are sustainable and equitable, short- and longer- term public transit and shared mobility policies for communities of different types under different scenarios in the context of the global pandemic and recovery? This webinar presents results from this scenario planning exercise comprised of 36 transportation experts — from across the nation and a wide variety of perspectives, ranging from public transit; state, regional and local government; industry; associations; non-governmental organizations; academia; and more. The UC ITS in partnership with the TRB Executive Committee and ClimateWorks is hosting this webinar, which features an overview of the study methods and key findings. The study provides a roadmap for the longer-term recovery of public transit and shared mobility, offering several key takeaways.
