Please join George Ban-Weiss, PhD (USC), Craig Tranby (LADWP), David Fink (Climate Resolve) and fellow LARC members to discuss urban heat island in Los Angeles.
George Ban-Weiss will begin the discussion by providing a summary of his research group’s policy-relevant heat island research for Los Angeles. He will discuss the climate impacts of heat mitigation strategies from neighborhood to global scale, the impact of the urban heat island on temperatures in Los Angeles, the potential for cool roofs to counter the urban heat island and future climate change in Los Angeles, and the local climate impacts of adopting drought tolerant vegetation.
Following Dr. Ban-Weiss, Craig Tranby (LADWP) and David Fink (Climate Resolve) will share information on the opportunities and challenges for mitigating urban heat island in Los Angeles. LARC staff will also provide an update on The Framework. The meeting will culminate with a rich and lively discussion among members.
